Gabriella is a Colombian-American non-fiction filmmaker drawn to our relationship to land, place, and the non-human; her films primarily take place between the US and Colombia.
Gabriella produced and co-wrote La Bonga (True/False, 2023) from directors Sebastían Pinzón Silva and Canela Reyes. La Bonga is a co-production with the community featured and follows their return to the home from which they were displaced 20 years before. Gabriella produced and co-wrote Backside (Tribeca, 2025) with director Raúl Paz Pastrana. Backside is a tender, observational exaltation of the workers behind the Kentucky Derby. Gabriella directed The Bardia (Mountainfilm, 2022) and is currently directing her first feature, FENCED, a darkly funny exploration of the boundaries that define land, identity, and belonging.
Her projects have been supported by Sundance, Catapult Film Fund, Creative Capital, ITVS, Nia Tero, and Firelight Media, among others, and have screened at festivals worldwide, including Tribeca, SXSW, IDFA, Cinema du Reel, and MoMa Doc Fortnight. She has received fellowships from Sundance, New America, Chicken & Egg, BAVC, and Point’s North, among others.
Previously, Gabriella created short docs at National Geographic as a one-woman-band, filmed musicians at NPR’s Tiny Desk, designed a summer film program for high school students at Yale, and led horse treks through Chile. Gabriella is a graduate of SCAD and believes deeply in community building. She’s a proud member of BGDM and DPA, and in 2017 founded the Washington, DC chapter of the Video Consortium, where she spent four years curating monthly events and facilitating mentorship for filmmakers and journalists.
